Peter Vesterbacka from Rovio and Phil Larsen from Halfbrick will address a speech with the topic of “Angry Birds take root in China” and “From star games to developers” respectively.
According to the GMGC organizing committee, both Rovio and Halfbrick are likely to announce new game product during the event. Both Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja dominated the market and came to top grossing apps on iOS chart, with unbreakable download record. With the rapid growth of mobile game market in 2013, there are more and more over 10-million-level games products on the market, and the glory of Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja faded away gradually. Rovio and Halfbrick shared the same goal to launch new products to dominate the market again, with distinctive innovation.
Rovio | Angry Birds
Rovio CMO Peter says they didn’t spend a large amount of money in marketing and promotion before entering into China, however, the Finish company with only 80 staffs surprises the world in the end, which is the amazing part of mobile internet market. Rovio has launched a few popular products, like Amazing Alex and Bad Piggies last year, and The Croods this March, however, none of this is as influential as Angry Birds.
It is said that Rovio will start the publishing business. As one of the most popular game brands, it is a wise approach for Rovio, with 250 million active users, to work in this way. Rovio has searched for cooperation with a number of developers since last year; therefore it is predictable that we are going to see the new products launched soon. It is said that Rovio will release a new product Tiny Thief this May, however, we are not sure if they will release it on GMGC.
Halfbrick | Fruit Ninja
The name Halfbrick may sounds a bit unfamiliar, however, most people should hear about its product Fruit Ninja. Released on April 2010, Fruit Ninja has been downloaded over tens of millions of times, and it occupied top 5 of paid application rank on App Store for a long time. It is on the list of necessarily installed applications along with other popular products like Angry Birds and Plants vs. Zombies.
Besides Fruit Ninja, the other products from Halfbrick should not be ignored, like Jetpack Joyride, Age of zombie and Monster Dash etc. Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride set an amazing record which it is difficult to break nowadays. Halfbrick plans to release 8 game products this year. Parkour game product Fish Out of Water landed on iOS platform this month, and the screenshot of another product Something Fishy was exposed on Facebook. Will Halfbrick release new products on GMGC? Stay tuned!
The booming of domestic mobile game market in 2013 has promoted the communication and cooperation between local and foreign mobile game companies. One of the fundamental mandates of the GMGC is to bring foreign enterprises into China, while introducing high-quality Chinese businesses to the international scene. We believe people will learn quite a lot from the wonderful speech addressed by Peter Vesterbacka and Phil Larsen.
